Save Me Part 2

Save Me Part 2

   Have you ever asked God to protect you from what you want? I doubt many of us have ever done that but maybe we need to do this. Just because we want something doesn’t mean that is what we need. That is a hard thing to see when we are in the midst  of the desire. All we are focused is on what that desire is, whether it be a relationship, a job, a home, money, or really anything that is before us. We get caught up in the desire and forget to ask or pray if it really is what we need.

   When we want something we sometimes say “ It is our hearts desire”. It is something that comes from with in us but we have to understand where or better yet who placed that there in our hearts. Did we do it or is it something from God? I am not just talking as adults with these “desires of what we want” but from as children thru the teenage years till adulthood. Just stop for a moment and just think of the different careers you wanted since you were a child till now. I know for myself they are interesting. Lets see, I want to be a Cop, a Lawyer, a Vet, a Writer, an Actor, and this is rather funny to me but lastly a Priest (maybe that one wasn’t just me). That is just some of the wants for a job. Now think about some relationships you wanted or wanted to last. For this one I am not about to list those wants at all but rather an experience. There was a girl that I thought would fill all my wants and things would be great. Yet, things were not to be and I was upset about it. Then years later our paths crossed and as we talked our lives were headed in different directions and I realized what I once wanted was best not to be had. Those two, career and relationships are the biggest wants I think we all have and are the two that can change the most in our lives.

    Think about every want that contradicted one another during your life. Which one was  right? Now think of how your life would be if every want is given and gets set in motion for you.... Scary isn’t it? I know for myself it is. I am blessed that most of my wants never became a reality. Yet, I wish I had the time I used to go after those wants. We need that protection from our wants not because we are wrong in wanting things but because it is not always what is best for us. Our wants can cloud our judgment and instead of praying for what is right we ignore that inner voice and go after our want. We need to ask God for protection against our wants at times and ask for clarity when they come to our wants. Our wants need to be in line with what God wants for us as well. What God wants is for the greater good in and for us.

    The next time when you want something whether it be a new job, a new relationship, or whatever else your heart says it desires new or even hold onto , stop.... and pray about where this “want” is coming from. Trust and believe me on this... Remember I wanted to be a Priest as a child and I never stopped until now to pray on that “want” and see who placed that want there. Was it me or was it God?

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and what do you want for your life right now? Remember stop and pray.

Monday of Holy Week
Lectionary: 257
Reading 1
IS 42:1-7
Here is my servant whom I uphold,
my chosen one with whom I am pleased,
Upon whom I have put my Spirit;
he shall bring forth justice to the nations,
Not crying out, not shouting,
not making his voice heard in the street.
A bruised reed he shall not break,
and a smoldering wick he shall not quench,
Until he establishes justice on the earth;
the coastlands will wait for his teaching.

Thus says God, the LORD,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spreads out the earth with its crops,
Who gives breath to its people
and spirit to those who walk on it:
I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice,
I have grasped you by the hand;
I formed you, and set you
as a covenant of the people,
a light for the nations,
To open the eyes of the blind,
to bring out prisoners from confinement,
and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.
Responsorial Psalm
PS 27:1, 2, 3, 13-14

R. (1a) The Lord is my light and my salvation.
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
The LORD is my life’s refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?
R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.
When evildoers come at me
to devour my flesh,
My foes and my enemies
themselves stumble and fall.
R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart will not fear;
Though war be waged upon me,
even then will I trust.
R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.
I believe that I shall see the bounty of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD.
R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Gospel
JN 12:1-11

Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany,
where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served,
while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil
made from genuine aromatic nard
and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair;
the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples,
and the one who would betray him, said,
“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages
and given to the poor?”
He said this not because he cared about the poor
but because he was a thief and held the money bag
and used to steal the contributions.
So Jesus said, “Leave her alone.
Let her keep this for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”

The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came,
not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus,
whom he had raised from the dead.
And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,
because many of the Jews were turning away
and believing in Jesus because of him.
