Fooling God

Fooling God

I saw this cartoon of Calvin and Hobbes and just had to post it on the blog. I have always been a fan of Calvin since I was younger and He really has at times been a voice of reason. Here we see Calvin acting as if he was sorry for what he just did but he really was just going through the motions so he wouldn’t get in trouble. Yet, the reality is, it was known he was not sorry and he says his act needs more work.

The same is for all of us who enter into the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We can not fool God. He knows if we are truly sorry for our sins. It does not matter how much we practice what will say in the confessional, the truth is still known. There is no walking out of there saying “ Wow, I got away with that”. There is no getting away with. There is no reason for us to even think that way because Jesus wants to forgive us. He will not love us less if we are honest and open to His saving Grace.

We are only fooling ourselves when we are not honest and open in the confessional. Do not ask for forgiveness if you really are not sorry. Wait until you feel ready to confess and you will be better off in the log run. Going through the motions will not give you the sanctifying  grace that we need to heal from our sins. It is through a penitent heart that we receive the sanctifying grace to restore our heart and soul.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and remember we can only fool ourselves and never God.

Pope to lead in Global Adoration

Pope to lead in Global Adoration

This Sunday, June 2, Pope Francis will unite in prayer with the world in Eucharistic Adoration. The Worldwide Eucharist Adoration will be broadcasted from St. Basilica from 5 to 6 PM local time.  This has never happened in the History of our faith. There has been a great response and is expanding from the cathedrals to parishes, lay associations, religious congregations and cloistered religious.

Check out your local areas parishes and dioceses to find out how you can participate in joining what I must believe millions of fellow catholics in Eucharistic Adoration. Just the idea alone sends chills to my core. Millions of us gather in prayer at the same time, it is just incredible. I will post more information as it comes.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and may you find an hour to spend with Our Lord, in Adoration.

A Prayer Before Mass - Saint Thomas Aquinas

A Prayer Before Mass -

Saint Thomas Aquinas

Today I found this prayer and it really speaks of what the most Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion should mean to each of us. The prayer speaks of the healing power of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. When we approach the alter of our Lord’s Supper we are seeking that spiritual, emotional and sometimes a physical & mental healing. The healing comes both from the Living Word and the Physical presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

A Prayer Before Mass - Saint Thomas Aquinas

Almighty and ever-living God,
I approach the sacrament
of Your only-begotten Son
Our Lord Jesus Christ,
I come sick to the doctor of life,
unclean to the fountain of mercy,
blind to the radiance of eternal light,
and poor and needy to the Lord
of heaven and earth.
Lord, in your great generosity,
heal my sickness,
wash away my defilement,
enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty,
and clothe my nakedness.
May I receive the bread of angels,
the King of kings and Lord of lords,
with humble reverence,
with the purity and faith,
the repentance and love,
and the determined purpose
that will help to bring me to salvation.
May I receive the sacrament
of the Lord's Body and Blood,
and its reality and power.

Kind God,
may I receive the Body
of Your only-begotten Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
born from the womb of the Virgin Mary,
and so be received into His mystical body
and numbered among His members.

Loving Father,
as on my earthly pilgrimage
I now receive Your beloved Son
under the veil of a sacrament,
may I one day see him face to face in glory,
who lives and reigns with You for ever.

Amen.

God's Gift Cards?

God's Gift Cards?

“Gifts clear the way for people, winning access to the great.” ~ Proverbs 18:16

How do you feel when you get a gift card? Are you excited or does it depend if it a gift card that can be used anywhere or a specific store? Do you feel the person did not put in the time to think or is it fine with you? Well, one thing for sure is that God never gives you a gift card, you get the gift/gifts that is meant just for you.

Tonight I was going to go through the gifts of the Holy Spirit but again to me I felt that if we do not touch upon the reason for them and how they are given to us as individuals not as a whole, the actual gifts will not have the same meaning. I am talking about not only the gifts of the Holy Spirit but also the talents we all have inside of us that God has placed there.

If God did give us a gift card that we could use how ever we wanted to get the gifts and talents we wanted how special would it really be? How many of us would choose to be great singers, great actors, great artists, etc...? What would be special about them anymore? Nothing really special about them because so many have them now. It would be unique to be that bad singer, actor or artist now. I know it sounds ridiculous but really think about that reality. A life with no unique talents or gifts. We would not be as special as we are to God or each other. It would be more of a cookie cutter world then the special one we live in now.

What are some of the gifts and talents that make you different from other people? Even to those in your own family? What makes you, you? Think and pray on them and think how it would be if you did not have what makes you special and different?

We need to explore and strengthen those gifts and talents we have within us. This also means that we need to share them so we can glorify God in the process. When we use and share our gifts we are expressing our sincere Thanks to God. It is like when someone gets you a sweater and you know you will be seeing them so you wear it so they know you like it and that you are thankful for the gift. It is the same with God’s gifts to us.

When we receive the gifts or talents we decide if we use them or not. We even decide if we even want to open them to see what they are. God will never force the gifts upon us or force us to use them. It must and will come from inside ourselves if we are to or not. Of course God wants us to but in the ultimate gift of free will that He gave us, leaves all those other gifts for us to open or not. It is in prayer where we can learn what those gifts and talents are and also by exploring our own interests.

I ask for all of us to search in ourselves and really ask if we are using all of our gifts and talents and if we are not, What is holding you back? Remember, God choose those just for you because He knows who you are and who you are going to be.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and do some unwrapping this week and see what you have inside you.

My Relationship with the Holy Spirit

My Relationship with the Holy Spirit

Tonight I want to focus on my personal thoughts and experiences with and about the Holy Spirit. Normally I would first go into the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit but to me knowing the gifts will not help understand the Holy Spirit at all. It is when we use the gifts that is when we dive into that personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.

For me the Holy Spirit is that inner quake that shakes things up, brings things down, and rises up that burning sensation that sets my soul in that right direction. The Spirit is that whisper in the wind, that gentle touch, the inner stirring. The calling from the heavens. That gentle reminder of who I am and who I am to be each day. That force that quiets my mind and embraces my soul. The Spirit is my constant connection to God and Jesus. That never ending bond with Heaven.

I know it was the Holy Spirit that kept trying to pull me back to the life of God, Jesus, Church and Faith those years when I was away. It was that voice that would come from time to time and just a light whisper of who I used to be. It was never a judgmental whisper but that of hope. It is the same voice that continues now to guide me in the next chapter of my life. That new or even old vocation that I am being called and led to. I am not sure where the Spirit is leading me but I am finding many blessings and adventures on the way.

The Holy Spirit is and always has been that wind in my sail that moves me. Even when I was being stubborn and anchored myself to the ocean floor so I would not be moved by the spirit, I was still moved because the waves were strong and aided the spirit in moving me ever so slightly. Without the Holy Sprit I would not be back and living my life the way it is now.

It was not just on Pentecost that the Sprit sets us on fire but everyday. If we allow the spirit to move and work in us then we will be able to use the gifts and see the fruits of the Holy Spirit before us. Think of what the Holy Sprit has done and what the spirit is to you? How do you see the spirit working or guiding in your life? Seek the silence and see the Holy Spirit.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and may the Holy Spirit live and work in you today and everyday.

Oklahoma Prayers

Oklahoma Prayers

Tonight I ask that we all gather in prayer for all those in Oklahoma.

For those who lost their lives and for those who are left behind weeping for them.
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who are trapped waiting for help, may the rescuers be guided to them.
Lord hear our prayer.

For all those who are homeless, that they shall find shelter.
Lord hear our prayer.

For all those who are suffering, may they find comfort.
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who can help, may they find a way.
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who are hungry, may they find food.
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who thirst, may they find clean water.
Lord hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father hear the prayers of your faithful. May we all gather to be like Your Son, and help as Jesus would help, Love as He would love, share as He would have shared and care as He would have cared. We ask this in your Name... Amen

Holy Spirit Prayers

Holy Spirit Prayers

I figured it is best to start off the blogs this week about the Holy Spirit with prayers to the Holy Spirit. Then during the week I hope to dive in and share my thoughts and personal relationship with the Holy Spirit in my life.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and may these prayers help us all to stir up the spirit that lives within us all.

Prayers to the Holy Spirit

Spirit of wisdom and understanding, enlighten our minds to perceive the mysteries of the universe in relation to eternity. Spirit of right judgment and courage, guide us and make us firm in our baptismal decision to follow Jesus' way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the lasting value of justice and mercy in our everyday dealings with one another. May we respect life as we work to solve problems of family and nation, economy and ecology. Spirit of God, spark our faith, hope and love into new action each day. Fill our lives with wonder and awe in your presence which penetrates all creation. Amen.

OR

Oh Holy Spirit, You are the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. You are the Spirit of truth, love and holiness, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and equal to Them in all things. I adore You and love You with all my heart. Teach me to know and to seek God, by whom and for whom I was created. Fill my heart with a holy fear and a great love for Him. Give me compunction and patience, and do not let me fall into sin.

Increase faith, hope and charity in me and bring forth in me all the virtues proper to my state of life. Help me to grow in the four cardinal virtues, Your seven gifts and Your twelve fruits.

Make me a faithful follower of Jesus, an obedient child of the Church and a help to my neighbor. Give me the grace to keep the commandments and to receive the sacraments worthily. Raise me to holiness in the state of life to which You have called me, and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Grant me also, O Holy Spirit, Giver of all good gifts, the special favor for which I ask {name special petition}, if it be for Your honor and glory and for my well being. Amen.

OR

Holy Spirit of light and love, you are the substantial love of the Father and the Son; hear my prayer. Bounteous bestower of most precious gifts, grant me a strong and living faith which makes me accept all revealed truths and shape my conduct in accord with them. Give me a most confident hope in all divine promises which prompts me to abandon myself unreservedly to you and your guidance. Infuse into me a love of perfect goodwill, and act according to God's least desires. Make me love not only my friends but my enemies as well, in imitation of Jesus Christ who through you offered himself on the Cross for all people. Holy Spirit, animate, inspire, and guide me, and help me to be always a true follower of you. Amen.

OR

Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy.

Pentecost

Pentecost

For today I felt that the best way to talk about Pentecost is to just post the reading from Acts Chapter 2. I also think that this week the blog will focus on the Holy Spirit.

May today, the Feast of Pentecost, renew the Spirit that lives inside each one of us and that we celebrate our Faith on this day.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and let the third part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, be with you today and always.

The Coming of the Spirit.
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind,* and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.” They were all astounded and bewildered, and said to one another, “What does this mean?” But others said, scoffing, “They have had too much new wine.”

 Peter’s Speech at Pentecost.
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them, “You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
These people are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘It will come to pass in the last days,’ God says, ‘that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
your old men shall dream dreams. Indeed, upon my servants and my handmaids, I will pour out a portion of my spirit in those days, and they shall prophesy. And I will work wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire, and a cloud of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness,
and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and splendid day of the Lord, and it shall be that everyone shall be saved who calls on
the name of the Lord.‘ You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazorean was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him. But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it. For David says of him: ‘I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted; my flesh, too, will dwell in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld,
nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’ My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day. But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that neither was he abandoned to the netherworld nor did his flesh see corruption. God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God,* he received the promise of the holy Spirit from the Father and poured it forth, as you (both) see and hear. For David did not go up into heaven, but he himself said: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”’ Therefore let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apostles, “What are we to do, my brothers?” Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized,* every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.”
He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day.

Communal Life.

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.
Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
All who believed were together and had all things in common;
they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need.
Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Degree off Course

Degree off Course

I was reviewing angles and degrees with my math students recently and I noticed how even being off by one degree makes a difference in the long run. Think about it for a minute, it doesn't seem that it would make that much of a difference but as you continue that course of being off by that you end up being further and further off course as time goes by.  Try it if you have a protractor or even check out images on google for it. It doesn't seem that big of a deal at first your just a little off. Your still right next to the other line , it even seems like it is just one dark line at first but as you continue you see two very distinct lines.

So, what does degrees have to do with God or our Faith? It is simple really. We may think that some little things we decide not to do or not fully go with the teachings of the faith would not make much of a difference, but as you see that if continued on that path even that smallest of one degree that we do not end up in the same place if we followed all of the teachings or God. You may be thinking  that how can we stay that  course all the time because sin sets us off that means we will never be where we were to be but thanks to the gift of Reconciliation we are able to reset that compass and are able to set that course back from that point at which we are at the moment when the priest says "your sins are forgiven".  We are reset, not from the beginning but from where we are in our faith life. We are also able to reset our course if it is not sin that is changing our course at any time. We are never stuck in that course, either good or bad. This is because of our free will. It is our choice the curse we take.

If we have these great sins or are actively going against God it is much easier to see that divide as we go on and even faster for us to realize it and change it. It is in those small little things that can set us apart from God and we do not even realize it till much later on. When things happen gradually we are least likely to realize those changes both for the good and bad. We need to be more attentive to our actions and realize that even just being slightly off course will put us further and further away from God.

To prove my point I will use an example that if you were flying just 1 degree off from your course you will miss your target destination by 92 feet for every mile you fly.  So, if you decided to fly around the equator and be a degree off you would be 500 miles away from your target spot. That would be 2,640,000 feet off from your destination. As you see it is a big difference.

Stop and check your compass and see if you are in line with God or if you are off course. Ask God to help you reset your course and start a new and stay the course as best as you can and when you find yourself off course as yourself why? If the answer is sin, then head to the sacrament of Reconciliation and reset your course. If it is because of any other reason then it is time for you to stop and figure out what you need to do to get back on course. We all must remember that God does not file our flight planes but we do and if we are off course it is not because of Him or the Faith but because we changed our course.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and check your God/Faith compass daily. The  quicker you know your degree the better you will be.

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel

The other day I saw this picture and I laughed and thought “ Oh, How true... My poor Guardian Angel”. I do not mean an ounce of disrespect but I always find these kinds of images as my faith in reality. Not the faith that Hallmark would produce in their cards. It is my personal living breathing reality faith that resides in me and comes from with in me. I also thought my Guardian Angel would be saying “ Did You have to give him all that free will, God?”

I really do feel that God and all those in Heaven have a sense of humor and with that must shake their heads and even laugh at the things we do down here on earth. I fully believe that we are watched over by angels and that they are there to help us and protect us but with that I also believe they must feel at times that they are dealing with the same issue with us over and over at times. I am looking back over my life and feel that my angel helped me out of many situations that, if left to myself, would have been a dangerous situation and would not have gotten out of it. How about yourself, have you had situations that you know you had some extra help? That your guardian angel was there and helped you in some way?

God knows each one of us and knows what we need. With what we need is that guide and protector , our Guardian Angel. I think our Angels are picked for us and some angels have an easier time then others. I would love to sit and have a conversation with my angel. To be able to hear what they see as they are by our sides all the time. They see all of our good and bad moments. They see what is heading towards us and keeps us from so many things that we do not even know about. I would like to know what they kept me safe from so maybe, just maybe, I would be better with my actions. In some way knowing what I missed, I would be more Thankful for all that God has done for me. To see our lives through the eyes of our Guardian Angel would , well for a lack of a better phrase, “ A real eye opener”.

With our eyes being opened to all those things that we are saved from, all those things that tempt us, all those snares of the devil, all the joys and graces, all the love and concern... etc .... But I guess that could hurt because we would be walking by sight and not by faith. We need to walk by faith and not by sight. The faith in us would be that of knowledge then coming from the depths of our souls.

I think I will be printing this picture and keeping it where I can see it and know that I have a guardian angel and without him/her my life would be a lot worse then I ever thought. God cared enough to protect us and to allow His angels to watch over us. Think about how your Guardian Angel has helped and save you from, well, yourself at times. What can you do to make your Angels job a bit easier today? I know after seeing this picture my spirits have been up because it reminded me to laugh at myself and not be so hard on myself with everything I have done. The idea that my angel could have done this makes me smile. It is not an ounce of disrespect by acknowledging my personal living breathing reality faith.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and remember to thank your Guardian Angel and smile today.

Remembering Mothers

Remembering Mothers

The day of Mother's Day is not easy for many people. For those who have lost their moms, it is more a day of memories and hopefully it is more joy then tears.  The one song that always hits home and brings memories of my mother is Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven. I have decide to just include the song this time and ask that we all keep those Mothers who passed away in our prayers tonight and for their Children who were left behind.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and may Mary bring our love to our Mothers in Heaven.

Happy Mothers Day

Dear Lord, relying on your promises to us, I turn to you in trust that my mother is with you and that she is enjoying your loving embrace. You alone know how she loved the best she could and how she faithfully endured the struggles that she faced. You know the graces you gave her and you know the grace she was for me and for so many. For all the ways she truly loved the way you loved her, please reward her, Lord. May she enjoy the communion of all her family and friends who are with you.
Lord, I know my mother still loves us who are still here on earth. I ask you that you might listen to her fervent prayers for us. Help me to grow into a new and deeper relationship with my mother now, as I long for the day when we will both meet in your embrace - freed from all that might have hindered our relationship on earth, knowing and understanding everything we did not know or understand on this earth.
Amen

Ascension Reflection

Ascension Reflection

With today being Ascension Thursday I couldn’t stop thinking what it was like for everyone to see Jesus leave them a second time. It had to be a mix of feelings and not understanding the whole picture of what was ahead for them. We are blessed to know how it all played out and what happened. Yet for those that were by Jesus side had no idea what was to come and if He was really gone from their  world.

Think how it was for them. They all see that Jesus is brutally beaten, nailed to a cross, died, was buried and on the third day He rose from the dead and revealed Himself to others. Then spends the coming weeks with them and reminds them that He must return to the Father so the Advocate will come. It had to be a roller coaster of emotions for them all. They lose Jesus, He returns and they lose Jesus again. I must think they had many questions like :  “ Will Jesus be back again?” , “ When will the Advocate come?” ,“Who or what is the Advocate?”. Then I would think they were also in some way rejoicing in the faith that Jesus bestowed upon them. That faith that would get them through everything that was to come. All the preaching, persecutions, and travels.

They were blessed to be with Jesus yet, those blessings came from struggles and pain as well as joys. We are blessed to know the events and that Jesus never left them as He will not leave any of us. We get the blessings of many many centuries of hindsight where for them it was foresight that was driven by their love and faith of and in Jesus. It is in that hindsight that we can gain strength when we feel doubt settling in our lives. Think about all those who saw and did not believe and those who did not see who believed. Those who have continued to be Jesus on earth. Those who continue to bring the faith to those so they too may come to believe and see. Those who sacrifice a life so to bring the bread of life, the Eucharist, to the masses. Those who walk in the light. Those who have kept that apostolic message to new generations.

As I typed those last few lines, I can not help but to be in awe of my faith. That continuing mission from Jesus saying to them:

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:19-20

That mission started with the decree from Jesus before He ascended to the Father and has continued on for almost 2000 years. Stop for a moment and think about that, 2000 years of baptizing and teaching all that Jesus has commanded. This really has stopped me in the middle of writing this and for me has me taking a deep breath, sitting back and taking in all of these past 2000 years of our Faith. It is a blessing and awe inspiring and something that I feel we all need to reflect on.

May God bless you all on this Holy Day where Jesus returned to our Father and commissioned those who brought our Catholic Faith to those who for generations have brought the faith to the next and for us now to remember we are to bring the faith to our generation and the next.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and remember we are all commissioned to spread the Faith.

Come to the River - Rhett Walker Band

Come to the River - Rhett Walker Band

As I sat down to write the blog tonight this song came on and it reminded me of how it was only when I came back to God, did that search and thirst disappear in my life. We are torn at times between ourselves and the truth that is within us. It is that internal struggle that fuels that thirst that we can not quench on our own.

When we drop and fall down we realize what we have been seeking and how God will fill our every need and we will thirst no more. He is always inviting us to sip from the cup of salvation. We just need to reach out and take it. Until we do, we will be restless. Our thirsts are quenched in different way and at times we will need to take more to satisfy that thirst of God. That pure refreshing cleansing water that came from Jesus as He was pierced by the lance of the soldier.

but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately blood and water flowed out.” ~John 19:34

Think of how God has quenched your thirst. In what way or ways did that thirst be fulfilled? Once your thirst is fulfilled, You desire that to be the way you live your life. Not saying that at times we may not try other ways but we will realize that nothing will ever quench that thirst from our souls then God, Himself. I know for myself that is the way. I tried many thing to take that yearning, that inward desire, but nothing filled it. That is what I mean by thirst. That inward desire that is not being met. One thing I am learning more at this point is that once that thirst is taken care of, God creates a different thirst in me to go further and to seek more to find that new and deeper relationship with God.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and think How God will quench your thirst today.

"Come To The River"

I'm torn between myself and your truth
These cursed memories, forever seeping through
My thirst for myself left me wanting more
Till I found myself face down on your shore

You say, come to the river
Oh, and lay yourself down and let your heart be found
You say come to the river
Drink from the cup I pour and thirst no more

My restless heart, led me astray
To my selfish pride I became my own slave
But you placed a thirst in me with no drink in sight
'Cause I could not see till I saw through your eyes

Our Lady of Banneux

Our Lady of Banneux

In the winter of 1933, a young girl named Mariette reported that the Virgin Mary appeared to her on eight separate occasions. Mariette was 11 years old and came from a poor, lapsed-Catholic family. The Virgin spoke only briefly during her apparitions, but encouraged the girl to pray and led her to a spring with healing powers.
Mariette first saw Our Lady of Banneux through her kitchen window before supper on Sunday, January 15, 1933. She saw a glowing figure standing motionless near the vegetable garden, dressed in white with a bright blue sash. The figure held a rosary and was smiling at Mariette. The young girl asked to go outside, but her mother feared the girl's vision might be a ghost and refused to allow it. When Mariette returned to the window, the lady had vanished.
Three days later, on January 18, Mariette knelt on the frozen ground where she had seen the figure and began praying the rosary. A figure appeared in the distant sky, then came closer and closer until she was only a few feet away. The lady led Mariette to a spring, then spoke for the first time, saying: "Plunge your hands into the water. This spring is reserved for me." Then she withdrew, promising to return.
On January 19, the lady appeared for a third time. Mariette asked her who she was, and she replied, "I am the Virgin of the Poor." The Virgin again led Mariette to the spring, and said, "This is reserved for all nations, for the sick."
During the fourth apparition, on January 20, Mariette asked, "What do you want, beautiful Lady?" The Virgin replied she would like a little chapel built and made the sign of the cross. At the fifth apparition (February 11), the Virgin took Mariette to the spring and said, "I come to alleviate suffering."
The sixth time she appeared (February 15), the Virgin said, "Believe in me, I will believe in you," and the seventh time (February 20) she said, "Pray hard."
The eighth and final apparition occurred on Thursday, March 2, 1933. The Virgin said, "I am the mother of the Savior, Mother of God" and repeated, "Pray hard."
After the apparitions, many healing miracles associated with the spring at Banneux were reported. The site of the apparitions at Banneux was officially approved by the Catholic Church in 1949.

Boiling Point

Boiling Point

Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” ~ Romans 12:2

Today at Mass Father told a story about a conversation between a Grandmother and her Grandchild. The conversation was about what kind of person she hoped that her grandchild would be and to show her what kind of person she wanted her to be she showed her by taking her into the kitchen and put three pots filled with water onto the stove and waited till they boiled. When they did, she placed carrots in one pot, another pot, eggs and in the last ground coffee beans. She sat with her grandchild and she kept asking her grandmother what is the lesson and she replied just wait some more and you will see.

After 20 minutes she turn off the pots and she spooned out the carrots and paced them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. She asked her grandchild what do you see? “ Carrots, eggs and coffee”, she replied. Take a closer look at each of them. Feel the carrots and she said they were soft and mushy. She then took an egg and broke the shell and found the egg has hardened and finally she asked her to sip the coffee. She said the coffee had deep flavor and had a rich aroma.  She then asked her grandmother “ What is the point to all of this?”

She replied to her and explained that each of these three items faced the same problem, boiling water, but each one reacted differently. The carrot went in hard, strong and unrelenting. However, after the boiling water it became weak. The egg was fragile and the outer shell protected itself but after the boiling water its inside became hardened. However, the coffee beans were different. After they were in the boiling water they changed the water.

Think about : Which one are you? Are you like the carrot that seems strong but when pain and adversity comes do you wilt and lose your strength? Are you like the egg  that starts with a fluid spirit but after a death, breakup, money issues, or some other trial, you become hardened and stiff? Does your shell look the same, yet inside you are bitter, tough, and have a hardened heart? Or are you like the coffee bean that changes the hot water, the very reason that brought the problem, pain or hardship on, into something better? If you are like the bean you change the circumstances and come out better then before. You do not allow it change you but you change the situation for the better then it changing you for the worse.

I must say that I wish I knew this story years ago. For so many years I was the egg. I allowed problem and situations in my life harden my heart to God and all the grace that He wanted to share with me. At times I bet we all can relate to each one of these, the carrot, the eggs and the coffee beans. I know I can.

We all, and I am speaking to myself as well here, need to stay strong and stay the course and be like the coffee bean and change whats around us and not allow it to change us. We are called to change the world and not let the world change us. We have to change the hearts of those in the world and show them the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is our jobs to be like the coffee bean and bring that rich and deep love of God to those in pain, who suffer, who are lost, who are blind, who are seeking the truth and those who do not know any other way. We can change the things around us and we have to try and make sure that those things do not change and harden us.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and which would you rather be? The carrot, the egg, or the coffee bean?

Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Lady of Lourdes

The apparitions at Lourdes took place only four years after the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, in 1854, and given their nature it is only natural to see a strong link between the two.

On Thursday 11 February 1858, fourteen year old Bernadette Soubirous saw a beautiful young girl in a niche at a rocky outcrop called Massabielle, about a half mile outside the town. She was near a wild rose bush and surrounded by a brilliant light and a golden cloud, smiling, with her arms extended towards Bernadette, who took out her rosary beads.

When she had finished praying the rosary the apparition beckoned to her, but Bernadette did not move and the girl smiled at her before disappearing. She later described how she had seen a young girl of about her own age and height, clothed in a brilliant and unearthly white robe, with a blue girdle around her waist and a white veil on her head.

This was the beginning of a whole sequence of apparitions, eighteen in all, which occurred during the spring and early summer of 1858. Mary first spoke to Bernadette on 18 February when she asked her if she would come to the grotto for a fortnight. Thursday, 25 February, saw a crowd of about three hundred, and the discovery that was to make Lourdes famous, that of the miraculous spring in the grotto.

During subsequent apparitions Mary asked for a chapel and processions, but Fr Peyramale, the local parish priest, insisted that the Lady would have to reveal her name before anything could be done about such matters. Early on March 25, the feast of the Annunciation, Bernadette made her way to the grotto, where the beautiful Lady was already waiting for her. Bernadette asked the Lady her name and after joining her hands at the breast and looking up to heaven she said, "I am the Immaculate Conception."
Bernadette hurried off toward the presbytery, repeating the Lady's strange words, so as not to forget them. She met Fr. Peyramale and left him dumbfounded with the words "I am the Immaculate Conception"; he realised that the Lady had indeed answered his request for her name. Although the message of Lourdes was now complete, Bernadette again saw Mary on the Wednesday after Easter, April 7, remaining in an ecstasy for about three quarters of an hour.

She was able to receive her first Holy Communion on the feast of Corpus Christi, and significantly she saw Mary for the last time from outside the grotto, on 16 July, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Bishop Laurence set up a Canonical Commission into the apparitions and their cause on July 28. This body first interviewed Bernadette in mid-November, and was impressed by her testimony and by a growing number of cures. It was not until January 1862 though, nearly four years after the apparitions, that the bishop delivered his verdict on Lourdes in a Pastoral letter, a verdict that silenced those hostile to Bernadette.
"We adjudge that the Immaculate Mary, Mother of God, really appeared to Bernadette Soubirous on February 11th, 1858, and subsequent days, eighteen times in all, in the Grotto of Massabielle, near the town of Lourdes: that this apparition possesses all the marks of truth, and that the faithful are justified in believing it certain. We humbly submit our judgement to the judgement of the Supreme Pontiff to whom is committed the Government of the whole Church."

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and may Mary appear in your Heart.

Our Lady of Knock

Our Lady of Knock

With May being dedicated to our Lady, I felt that during the month I would be posting different Apparitions of Our Lady and also some other items as well as the month goes on.

The Apparition at Knock took place in 1879, eight years after Pontmain in 1871. The two apparitions are broadly similar, in that they both took place in the evening and only lasted for three hours or so, and similarly, in both, no words were spoken.
On the evening of Thursday, 21 August 1879, two women from the small village of Knock, Mary McLoughlin and Mary Beirne, were walking near the local church when they noticed luminous figures at the gable end. As they got closer they realised there were three moving figures and that one of them looked like the Blessed Virgin.
They surmised that the others were St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist, and as it got darker Mary Beirne went off to alert her family, and so soon other neighbours joined them in the pouring rain. As the crowd gathered they could also see an altar, with a young lamb on it, in front of a cross, while one boy saw angels over the altar, but they heard no sounds and no verbal message was given. The apparition lasted for several hours, and was witnessed independently, as a globe of light, by a farmer who lived about a half mile away.
The happening at Knock was thoroughly investigated and it was proved that it could not have been produced by luminous paint or a "magic lantern." A commission of enquiry was set up by the aged Archbishop of Tuam, Dr. McHale, but although it considered the witnesses reliable and trustworthy, the Archbishop made no definitive statement for or against the apparition.
However, over time Knock gradually gained official support from the Church, culminating in the Papal visit of 1979. The symbolism of the lamb, cross and altar has been seen as pointing to the sacrificial death of Christ and the Mass, and yet these were behind Mary in the apparition at Knock, suggesting that the focus was on her and her role as a mediator.

Prayer to our Lady of Knock

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to our people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise: "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find". Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.

Forgiven by Sanctus Real

Forgiven by Sanctus Real

There are times that we hear a song on the radio and it was just the right song to hear at the right time. Today that song was " Forgiven by Sanctus Reel". The song speaks of redemption from our past and that we shouldn't carry the burdens of our past with us. As usual the video and song lyrics are below.

When we do have a past that we are not pleased with, it can drag us down and with that when things are down in our life, that past seems to creep up on us and makes us feel worse then before.  It is easier for the past to play through our minds and each mistake play out again in our heads. I know for me that is the case. Those past transgressions come up when I a struggling with something else. I do, as well as all of us need to let them go and remember that we are not that same person as we were before. We all evolve in Christ and with the Holy Spirit. When they abide within us, They transform us. Those things that keep us from the full transformation are the things that hold us to our pasts. It weighs down our hearts and holds us in one place so we can not move forward. When we are not moving forward we don't keep that distance from our pasts. We are not able to make more memories that can counter act the past.

Beside confession the best way for us to forget the past is to make new memories with the person we are becoming. We can grow and change. We are not who we once were but can be who we are to be in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. He redeemed us so we are forgive. Whenever we ask for forgiveness with a pure heart and mind we are forgiven.

Each day is a new chance to grow closer to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us. God can and will use us. Our pasts are not greater then God. We just have to look at people in the Bible. Not everyone had a past that they were proud of. Even look at the disciples. They were not what some would call "ideal" but yet Jesus called each one of them. They did not search or run after Him. He called them to follow Him.

We all have things in our pasts that we are not proud of.  Use your past not as an  anchor that holds you down but as a point to see how far you have come. This is a reason why I fully believe in keeping a spiritual journal. We are then able to see how we were and where we are now. God cares more about where you are now then where you once were. If God didn't care then He wouldn't have sent His only Son down to save us and be forgiven.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and remember you are Forgiven.

"Forgiven"

Well, the past is playing with my head
And failure knocks me down again
I’m reminded of the wrong
That I have said and done
And that devil just won't let me forget

In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am

I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
'Cause I’m forgiven

My mistakes are running through my mind
And I’ll relive my days in the middle of the night
When I struggle with my pain, wrestle with my pride.
Sometimes I feel alone and I cry.

And in this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am

Well, I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
'Cause I’m forgiven

When I don't fit in and I don’t feel like I belong anywhere
When I don’t measure up to much in this life
Oh, I’m a treasure in the arms of Christ

'Cause I’m forgiven
Well, I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
'Cause I’m forgiven.
