To Do List

To Do List

"Let us search and examine our ways and return to the Lord" ~ Lamentations 3:40

The To-Do list is so much part of many of our lives. Either at work or at home. There is nothing greater when we get to cross off or check an item on the list. That pleasure is soon taken away when we see what is still left on the list. We need to-do lists to keep us  on track at times or to remind us what is more important to get done.

At first I thought maybe a God or Faith “To-Do” list is something that is needed but then that puts that part of life as a chore. The list normally consists of errands and projects that need to be taken care of. God is not something that needs to be taken care of. It needs to become part of your day and not just an item to check off. It is more then just say your prayers and you get to check it off your “spiritual” to-do list.

We are to say our prayers or read the bible or speak to God because it is something that we want to do with our hearts. That is where it matters. Before I go further I must say that yes, there may be times when we feel so removed from God that it is hard to do those things but we make ourselves do it. We do that because we still feel it is right to do. There is a big difference between doing it because you feel it is right verses it is just a chore to check off.

I think back to the time when I turned from God, and I could have done the whole check off list to just cover myself or attend mass to just cover myself and say at least I went. What counts is when it comes from our hearts and soul. I was not going to fake it. That is not who I am and God knew that.

Our spiritual side needs to be woven into the daily fabric of our lives. It is not something that we have on the side or an accessory to our lives. It should become part of the day like eating dinner. We need to feed our spiritual life as well as our bodies. We do not put eat lunch, eat dinner, shower or dress on a to-do list so prayer or mass should not be on there either.

It is a new start of the year and it can be added to your daily routine. It will become part of your daily life as long as you continue to do so from the start. The more consistent you are with it in the beginning the quicker it will become part of your life. It will change your life.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and take it day by day and prayer by prayer.
