Light

Light

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father"
 ~ Matthew 5:14 - 16

We are all called to be the light of Christ in this world that is filled with darkness. No matter how dark it is the light of one candle can not be put out. The light will cast out the darkness and show us the way. The other part of having the light of Christ in us is that we are to share the light with others. We are called to share the light of Christ in us.

One part of the passage that I feel needs to be explained before going on is “ that they may see your good deeds”. This is not to be confused with boasting or putting yourself in the spot light. It is because of Christ in us that we are able to do the good deeds. We need to allow Christ light to shine through us instead of the spot light being on us.

It is up to “ALL” Christians to share the light of Christ and not just those in the religious life. We are also to be the evangelizers of Christ. When we are out in the world do Christ work and sharing the Gospel with others we are bringing light to the world. By doing this we are hoping that a spark in others will help light their hearts with the love of Christ. Once that light is burning we are able to share it with others. The great thing is that when the light is shared that it does not extinguish the other. It will not even diminish the other light but be just as strong as it was.

The amazing thing is that sharing the light of Christ does not require much from us. We just need to be who Christ wants us to be. For some it will be preaching the Gospel, some help with ministries, and others just sharing their gifts with others. We are all called in different ways to be the light of Christ in the world. There is none that is greater then another. One’s light will never shine greater then another when we are doing the work of Christ. Use what Christ has given you, your talents, and find a way to use them to show what He has given you. Share it with others and say where they come from. You will never lose your light when you share it in His name.

Until tomorrow, God Bless, and be the light to others in a dark world.
